Description
Our SL5-SD cabinets are precision CNC machined from 15mm MDF and have rabbet joints to make them easy to put together. This version of the SL5-SD cabinet is specifically designed for Markaudio CHN-50 drivers. Due to the different number and positions of the pre-drilled screw holes and different recessed cut-out depth, they are not compatible with Markaudio Alpair 5.3 drivers. An equivalent kit for the Markaudio Alpair 5.3 driver is available here.
Pre-Built Cabinets
If you choose pre-built cabinets, we will glue the cabinets together and stick acoustic wool felt to the inside of them. We will give the cabinets an initial sanding, but depending on the level of finish required, you may need to do some additional sanding. The drivers, Arylic plate amplifiers and port tubes will not be fitted, and this is something that you will need to do yourself. We will however terminate the cables supplied with the Arylic plate amplifiers (if purchased) with 4.7mm push on gold plated crimps. If you require fully finished (veneered or painted) speakers, please contact us using this form, as this will be a bespoke build that we will need to quote for separately based on your requirements.
Instructions
1) Test assemble the cabinets to ensure that you understand how the cabinets go together before you glue them (as shown in this animated video on YouTube).
2) Glue the back, top, bottom and sides of the cabinet together. Fit the front baffle without using glue and clamp together. It is important to ensure that you don’t glue the front baffle to the cabinet at this stage as it will make it impossible to stick the acoustic wool felt to the inside of the cabinets. Leave for at least an hour and ideally overnight.
Wood glue is not included with this kit, but is available here.
3) Cut the acoustic wool felt into suitably sized pieces for the back, top and bottom and sides of the cabinets. The inside of the front baffle does not need to be lined. Spray the inside of the cabinet and one side of the acoustic wool felt pieces with contact adhesive. Leave for a few moments to allow the solvent in the contact adhesive to evaporate. Fit the pieces to the inside of the cabinet.

4) Glue and clamp the front baffle in place. Leave for at least an hour and ideally overnight.
5) Remove all excess dried glue by rubbing with a damp cloth and then sand the joints until the desired finish has been achieved.
6) Paint or veneer the cabinets.
7) Tap the port tubes into place with a rubber mallet. Optionally, a small bit of blu tack can use under the lip of the port tube to improve the seal.
8) Terminate the cables supplied with Arylic plate amplifiers with the supplied crimps and insulating boots.
9) Attach the cables to the back of the Arylic plate amplifiers and fit the Arylic plate amplifiers to the cabinets using the supplied screws.
10) Attach the other end of the cables to the drivers and fit the drivers to the cabinets using the screws supplied with the drivers.
11) Follow the instructions supplied with the Arylic plate amplifiers to connect them to your network. Designate the Arylic plate amplifiers to be the right and left channels as appropriate and then link them together so that they are synchronised.
