The E-IX 2 way sealed (acoustic suspension) speaker kit was designed to look like a Linn Kan or LS3/5a from the front but sound better than either and boy does it achieve that! It features one of the world’s best 5.25” mid-woofers from Scan Speak in acoustic suspension that is seamlessly mated with a 1” tweeter via an acoustic Linkwitz-Riley 4th order acoustic crossover network. the crossover has been designed holistically with UK and EU living spaces in mind where proximity to the walls is needed. These speakers are also SAM ready for Devialet amps.
Owners can choose between flush mounted and exposed drivers or a recessed and grilled baffle and the standard kit construction allows for both configurations
The Ergo was designed by the user James over on the PFM forum where many forum members have built it. I have made lots of custom versions of this speaker over the last few years and now introduce a kit version of the speaker after many requests.
Depending on the room conditions, the E-IX is generally good for a genuine 50 Hz to 18 kHz. With the benefit of appropriate room gain and suitable amplification, it will have little difficulty reproducing the lowest fundamental note of a bass guitar at moderate volume. However, as it has a sensitivity of only 84dB/2.83V/m, it won’t like being asked to replay AC/DC at realistic levels although at sensible levels they cope jut fine. In a typically compact room, the E-IX should do justice to virtually all kinds of music. Take a look over at this link on PFM to read about James’ own build and for instructions on building your own if you fancy going free style.
