Description
The Markaudio MAOP 11 MS is a top-tier full-range driver engineered for DIY speaker builders, audio designers, and serious enthusiasts seeking precision, transparency, and build integrity. Based on the proven Alpair 11 MS platform, it incorporates Markaudio’s most advanced technologies to deliver exceptional acoustic performance in a wide range of enclosure designs.
Advanced Cone Technology: MAOP
At the heart of the MAOP 11MS is Markaudio’s Magnetic Arc Oxidisation Process (MAOP)—a high-temperature chemical conversion that transforms the cone surface into a crystalline oxide structure. Unlike conventional coatings, this process grows into and out of the substrate, becoming part of the cone itself. The result is:
- Exceptional stiffness and rigidity, reducing cone flex and distortion
- Strong adhesion and durability, resisting damage over time
- Low resonance and high neutrality, preserving detail and tonal balance
- A unique sonic character, combining the precision of metal cones with the natural warmth of paper
Mono Suspension Architecture
The MAOP 11 MS features a Mono Suspension (MS) design, eliminating the traditional spider and relying on a single, precision-engineered surround. This architecture offers:
- Reduced mechanical noise, thanks to fewer moving parts
- Improved transient response, with faster cone acceleration and deceleration
- Lower moving mass, enhancing sensitivity and micro-detail retrieval
- Simplified energy transfer, for cleaner, more direct sound reproduction
Dispersion and Imaging
A low-profile cone geometry supports wide off-axis dispersion, making the MAOP 11MS ideal for immersive listening environments. Whether used in single-driver enclosures, open baffle systems, or paired with a subwoofer, it maintains coherence and imaging across the listening field.
Precision-Matched Pairs
Each MAOP 11 MS driver is individually measured in Markaudio’s anechoic chamber and supplied as a matched stereo pair, with electrical and acoustic tolerances held within 0.5%. This ensures:
- Consistent stereo imaging
- Reliable build symmetry
- Confidence in design execution
Ideal Applications
- Full-range single-driver loudspeakers
- Open baffle and minimalist enclosures
- High-resolution desktop monitors
- Integration with subwoofers for extended bass
Plans
As usual Scott Lindgren has produced several plans for this new driver which you can find below, happy building! They will also work in our pensil 11 kits and the Frugel-horn XL kit as well as the SL series of budget kits
