Shallow Flush Trim Router Bit

This flush trim router bit is a solid carbide 1/4 inch with a 3.175mm (1/8″) shallow bearing bit that will fit a standard router. Ideal for cutting veneer round speaker driver rebates.

One of the things that always frustrated me building my own speakers as a DIY enthusiast was that the routing of the bevel and driver holes had to be done once the speaker was already to veneered to ensure a clean cut to the veneer round the rebate edges. But what if make a mess of the hole? It might mean making another baffle and veneering again, you might even need to make a new speaker box. The other alternative was veneering after the hole is cut and then trimming with a veneer knife, this is a great solution if you are handy with one but if it’s not something you do every day then chances are you’ll not make the best job of it. Of course if the rebate is deep you can maybe use a bearing guided flush trim router bit, of course rebates are normally much more shallow than the bearing and screw in one of those will allow. Searching for a solution I noted that in the USA flush trim bits were solid carbide and the cutter was just cut into the actual shaft and the end of the shaft was ground to be a friction bearing. The obvious advantage of this is the the bearing part is only 3.175mm (1/8″). The shallowest driver frame I’ve ever come across is 4mm so this solution is perfect. I searched high and low to find somewhere in the UK that could supply one of these tools, to no avail. I decided to import some directly to the UK from the manufacturer so that I could make sure other speaker builders didn’t have this same problem.

These bits are great for trimming veneer and laminates wherever you need to, not just the rebate of the driver holes. They are great at trimming acoustic guitar bindings as well
